Top 10 Most Important Players in Season 76 (May Forecast)

First, let me explain what this list is about. This is not the same as the MVP title. In selecting the Most Important Player, I considered the player's impact on her team (how much of a loss she will be to the team if she doesn't play), her impact to the league (how much she'll affect the team rankings) and how well she plays her role in the team. Sounds vague? Well, let's just get on with the list.

1. Dindin Santiago - Okay. I see some eyebrows rising now. Well, if you need proof, checkout the individual statistics in the Shakey's V-league. This girl is rocking it in almost all aspects. She is still the most lethal middle attacker. Aside from that, she has also improved her blocking and service. All she needs to do is improve her floor defense and she'll be a shoo-in for MVP. But why is she number one in our MIP list? Imagine NU without her. Imagine NU's ranking without her. Exactly.

2. Alyssa Valdez - She is Dindin's top competitor for the MIP spot. I'm still unsure what role she'll be playing in UAAP 76 but she might become Team Captain and be converted to middle hitter. This young girl is also doing well in the service area , scoring aces every now and then. What she needs to improve on now is her blocking and floor defense. Again, why MIP? Well, she's not just a part of the ADMU Lady Eagles team. She IS the team. It's Alyssa De Manila University folks. Without her, ADMU might be joining FEU, UP and UE in the lower half of the UAAP rankings.

3. Abigail Maraño - Two-time MVP? She's the queen! Aby won't be awarded MVP twice for no reason. She is an all-around player. From floor defense to blocking to attacks, she is very reliable. But why only third? Well, as I have said, we also consider her effect on her team. Even without her, DLSU will still have a great performance in the UAAP. Yes, she's an amazing captain but her team is really such a well-oiled machine that can function well even without her.

4. Ara Galang - Aby's co-MVP in Season 75 will also play a huge role in Season 76. Without Michelle Gumabao, Galang will have to up her performance. Like Aby, she's also an all-around player specializing in attacks and service. She will have to improve on her blocking skill though. Gumabao is one of the league's best blocker and DLSU's defense will be affected if no one steps up to her level in the blocking department.

5. Mika Reyes - This popular player is on her way to becoming the Face of Season 76. But don't let her cute, innocent smile fool you, she can score points in the middle in the blink of an eye. Her quick, smart middle hits have been important in keeping the UAAP crown from the Lady eagles. Plus, her blocking skill is also an essential part of the DLSU Block Party. She will be instrumental in controlling the Santiago sisters.

6. Myla Pablo - This girl has been a revelation in the UAAP Season 75. I don't know why but when she attacks, there's a very high probability that the ball won't come back. Is it the angle? Is it the power? Is it the timing? Well, whatever it is, it will make Myla one of the most powerful attackers in 76. She's been UAAP75's Best Attacker and will also win the same award in this year's V-League. She also needs to improve on her floor defense and blocking. Together with the Santiago sisters, they form the deadly NU trio.

7. Jaja Santiago - A rookie in the top ten right away? Why not? Her height is such a big factor in the UAAP 76 games. She will be uncontrollable in attacks and blocking if she gets her game on soon enough. She is already playing well in the Shakey's V-league. In fact, Mika Reyes should already be training harder because she's no longer the most intimidating middle. Jaja can easily win a joust over her. Plus, her choice to study in NU just cemented NU's drive for the finals.

8. Mylene Paat - Who? I'm sure many of you were surprised to see her name here. But if you've been watching the V-league games especially Adamson against National, you'll know why this girl deserves to be included here. With Pau's graduation, Adamson is in dire need of a tall middle who can block as good as Pau. And they got it. Although a newbie to the league, Paat was in a close fight with Ortiz for the Best Blocker award. Plus, she has several months to prepare for S76. AdU will be almost powerless against the taller teams like NU if Paat did not join them.

9. Carmela Tunay - She is UST's strongest spiker based on their V-league performance. In fact, in some of their games, she has been UST's best scorer. Although she's been put in hot water because of her service errors in crucial games, Tunay is still the strongest girl in the UST squad. Without her, they'll be much less powerful. But she has to contribute more for the team than just those open spikes. She could improve her blocking for instance. And yes, her service.

10. Bang Pineda - This girl may not be the tallest spiker but she is able to get her balls across and they seldom come back. Her floor defense is also commendable. She is capable of neutralizing UST's Tunay, NU's Pablo, ADMU's other spikers other than Valdez, and DLSU's other hitters other than Galang. And I know it's not related to the topic but I really admire her for being proud of her sexuality and her partner. Cheers!

So yeah, that's it. But this is just for May. Changes will be made based on their performances and also on your comments so comment away! :D

    1. yup! this blogger said this of Ara Galang, "She will have to improve on her blocking skill though." Hello, she was in top 10 on all skills except receiving and setting last Season 75... di pa sapat sa blogger na to yung top 10 sa blocking... kaloka

  4. I think Mina Aganon should make the list soon. She has vastly improved her attacks and defense. Questionable nalng yung receiving at consistency nya. Pero if she continue her progress, she will be another NU force to reckon with!:)

  5. I think NU and DLSU for finals

  7. Si Tricia Santos ba lalaro na?
Feel ko critical sya para palaguin pa lalo ang fanaticism ng tao sa volleyball.

While people do appreciate the skills and athleticism of the girls, the beauty aspect still drives aton of people to the game.

If she proves that she's more than just a pretty face, and starts playing top shelf volleyball for UST... it would definitely grow the sport as well.

    1. From what I heard, she is not yet that ready. But yeah, she'll be the new Daquis and Ho.

  8. No Hates. Pero i think biased ito parasa FEU! You know their skills. DI sila basta basta. Oo they failed to eneter the final 4 last season pero madami silang pinahirapan na teams. Pero Let's see. Sa Season 76 talaga magkakaalamanan.

    Nic blog, tho.

I think MIP din sila Jem Ferrer at Mel Gohing. Pero ang cool ng article mo! Haha. Sorry sa protesta ^^

    2. I don't think so. Wala na si Kai Nepomuceno eh kaya kailangan nila si Jaja. :)) Kung mag-iimprove pa sina Aganon at Dadang then malaki ang maitutulong nila sa NU. In my opinion, kailangang mag level up pa si Ivy Perez.

    3. andyan si aiko the supernatural urdas

  10. Jen reyes is no longer part of this season. Aganon and Urdas can be MIP too

  11. My point of view---I don't think there is an effect and loss if Jaja, Myla and Paat will not play for their respective teams.
As for Mela, she is indeed good but not also a loss if she doesn't play. UST's problem is on defense and not on their offense. We all know that Mela isn't at her strongest when it comes to defense. I would rather choose Jessy De Leon for her blocking, Dancel Dusaran for her unbelievable skill in defense or the infamous and neglected Maru Banaticla who can actually do both.

    1. What do you mean when you said that it won't affect NU's performance without Jaja and Myla? Sa tingin mo ba mag-fi-finals sila sa V league kung wala si Best Attacker( Myla )? at si Jaja? Lol.

  12. Excuse me? Dusaran for her unbelievable skill in defense? She's one of the worst liberos! De Leon is indeed a good blocker but is she really more important than Tunay? You're right about Banaticla. Yep. She WAS important. In season 74. But I don't know what happened to her. I hope she bounces back this season 76.

  13. No effect if Jaja won't play? NO effect if Paat won't play? Even Myla? It's cool to be loyal to your team but blatantly underestimating other team's players is just outrageous. Isip-isip din pag may time.

  14. Precisely, reasons why I gave those remarks;pinag-isipan kasi.I stand my ground for saying those players that doesn't have effect on their teams should they not play.and this is not just being loyal to a team.(basa basa naman dyan...kalma lang coz I haven't mentioned any team in particular)
Yes, Dusaran and she's not the worst libero at all.YES De Leon over Tunay. As for Banaticla, what happened!? For obvious reasons, her skill was not maximized during the last season.
Again, these are my point of views.

  15. Check out Dancel's stats, definitely not the worst libero.

  16. I'm not sure with Tunay tho. Ung iba importante talaga dyan. Si tunay kasi malakas pero mostly siya rin ung nageerrors. She needs to improve her confidence din kasi mukhang kabado siya, especially during service kaya madalas nag-eerror. Siguro mas importante si Maika Ortiz kesa sa kanya. Just an opinion.

    1. I agree with you. Gaya ng sbe q Mela is good but the team can play and win even without her.

  17. Ortiz won't be in Season 76 anymore. UST will be left with Tunay, De Leon, Lastimosa, Gi Reyes and the rookies.

  18. I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I've been waiting for blogs, just like yours, which can offer fresh and quality insights in the name of Philippine Volleyball. You are definitely part of the sport's growth in the nation. Keep it up!

MIP. Two thumbs up for this :)

  19. Hmm you forgot Aiko Urdas. NU's lineup for the next season is really strong. They have the santiago sisters, powerful typhoon pablo, and aiko urdas. And I've heard azie soliven's goin to be their setter. Idk much about her but many are saying that she' good. I'm not sure with General as libero though. Idk if she can dig balls like jen reyes but I've seen her play and i think she's pretty consistent in serving while Aganon's silent kill attacks were impressive, what a great improvement. Aiko's still young but she's really helping the team in scoring especially in blocking. I remember in shakey's vleague finals(i think it was game 2)when she had 3 consecutive blocks against daquis. Just give her a good set and she'll surely kill the ball(i love her charisma in the court btw). I think NU lady bulldog's the most improved team ever(well obviously) and it was nice to see them competing against the 2-time consecutive champion ADMU. I sound like an NU-biased but nope, I'm still on DLSU's side but i just want to praise NU lady bulldogs for giving an exciting play in UAAP 75 and in shakey's vleague X. Kudos NU and good luck in UAAP 76. :) Nice blog btw!

  20. If you gonna see some stats, Its gonna be VALDEZ vs. GALANG/PABLO/DINDIN, DINDIN vs. REYES/De Leo, Reyes vs. JAJA, Jaja vs. Marano. Marano vs Valdez then the cycle continuous !

  21. what do you mean sexuality ni bang pineda? tomboy po sya?

  22. Reyes did, however, win a joust against Santiago. Not that i'm defaming Santiago, but it's just that you can see the beauty of the joust between a 5'11 and a 6'5 :)
